Pink Floyd Return to the Top at Christmas 2025
Pink Floyd have secured the Official Christmas Number 1 album of 2025 with Wish You Were Here (50th Anniversary Edition), marking a remarkable full-circle moment for one of Britain’s most influential rock bands. The chart-topping release arrives exactly 50 years after the album first reached Number 1 in 1975.
The anniversary edition was released across digital and physical formats and includes six previously unreleased alternate takes and demo recordings. The expanded release reignited interest among long-time fans and new listeners alike, propelling the classic record back to the top of the UK charts during the most competitive week of the year.
A Historic Chart Milestone
This achievement gives Pink Floyd the longest gap between first and latest Number 1 albums in UK chart history. The band now holds a span of more than 50 years between chart-toppers, surpassing The Beatles’ previous record set by Abbey Road. It cements Pink Floyd’s unique position in British music history.
Two Number 1 Albums in One Year
2025 has already been a landmark year for the group. Earlier this year, Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII reached Number 1 following a fully restored re-release with new audio mixes by Steven Wilson. This marks the first time Pink Floyd have achieved two Number 1 albums in the same calendar year.
Strong Vinyl and Retail Performance
Wish You Were Here also leads the Official Vinyl Albums Chart and tops the Record Store Chart, reflecting strong support from independent retailers and collectors. While this is the band’s first Christmas Number 1 album, they previously claimed the festive singles crown in 1979 with Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2.
Five decades on, Pink Floyd’s influence remains undiminished.
